Happy Pongal Wishes to all......

Hi Everyone --

I trust everyone is doing OK. My prayers are always there for everyone's well-being.

Happy Pongal Wishes to all.

In this article, I will share little about the importance and history of this festival.

Why Pongal Celebrations?

  • This festival honours the "Sun GOD" and commemorates the Sun's northward voyage. It also signifies the end of winter.
  •  The festival is named after the ceremonial "Pongal", which means "to boil, overflow" and refers to the traditional dish (rice) prepared from the new harvest of rice boiled in milk with jaggery (raw sugar).
  • To mark the festival, the pongal sweet dish is prepared, first offered to Sun God and goddesses.
  • It is celebrated to THANK nature, farmers, cows, agriculture and GOD......
  • Food and cattle are a vital part of this celebration

Some more historical story: Why Cows? :)

  • According to a legend, it all started when Shiva's bull, Basava, delivered a wrong message to humans. Instead of directing humans to have an oil massage and bath every day and to eat once a month, Basava told everyone that they should eat every day and have an oil bath once a month. Thereafter, Shiva sent his bull to Earth to help humans to produce more food.

OK, what do we do in our farm?....

In our farm, we cultivate "palm sprouts" and harvest at this time, which are used in pongal pooja.  Palm Sprouts are rich in fibre and protein. We are yet to plan little more vegetables. Hopefully, in the coming years, we will try. :)

Also, from this year, we are introducing "#Farm To Family / Farmer2Family / Kisaan2Kitchen / Khet2Kitchen". i.e. you could visit the farm with family and buy it from there directly. :).....

I did spin up a simple website for our farm: https://www.pappafarms.com/

OK, everyone. See you in the next blog with more info....
