Drumstick season....

Image
My dear social friends, brothers and sisters ...  Vanakkam, Namaste. I trust everyone is doing well.. This blog is about latest updates on Drumstick season from my farm. I am continuing from my previous blog update about "drumstick vegetable". This month, I visited my farm and spent sometime there.     I do have around 500 trees and still trying to make it to 1000 in couple years. :) Usually we get good yielding around summer time around Southern India.  In July, August and September the temperature is consistently around 90+. You could see from below picture the number of drumstick vegetables from one tree. You could see from below picture the number of flowers, white in color, from one tree. Our soil is RED soil and you could see the plantation from below pictures. We give enough spaces between trees so that it could grow. Trees are watered through drip irrigation ways these days.  These trees take little water only.  They survived last year drought in our area. So far,

Library & Library Love: A feast for brain and a place of peace for mind…

My dear social friends, brothers and sisters ...  Vanakkam, Namaste. I trust everyone is doing well.. This blog is about libraries, and my personal experience in USA public libraries.   First few months in USA, many people told me about various good things about the libraries in USA. I never took that seriously, and never paid too much attention to that. Since I have seen various libraries in hometown and had a preset mind . However, one day we had to go there due to my kid’s school assignment activity. The assignment topic was library. I decided to take them to nearby “Fremont Public Library”, so that they feel about library and experience the same .   Yes, it was a stunning and amazing experience.   Ahh, no, we wasted few months already in USA. It is a public library and totally shocked by the ambience.   My kids got free membership with their school ID cards. After that, we started going regularly during every weekend.   My memory started jogging about old days…    Reserving a

Writing this in my mother-tongue - TAMIL....

Spiritual Life @ America - Last one year....

Image
My dear social friends, brothers and sisters ...  Vanakkam, Namaste and good day!... This is yet another different type of blog... Just sharing my spiritual experience here in USA. My iPhone was giving many reminders to upgrade, though I was rescheduling again and again.. Finally, it was a forced day for me, and I had no other choice. Yes, I had to upgrade, but you know what, I had to restart and reset couple times to adjust, YES, it worked seamlessly after that.... APPLE is smart, no doubts on that. This is common these days, isnt it ?.. just a reset and restart, which I delayed. After the upgrade, I am seeing lot of new features and cool stuff...  But, the journey was postponed by me..  Isn't it?. In Journey of LIFE, we do the same. Most of the times we have to upgrade ourselves, or we will be forced. In every upgrade, we have to go through a RESET.  What is that? But, if you know what "resets" you every week or every month, it gives a different boost

Drought and Drain.... A global warming impact....

Image
My dear social friends, brothers and sisters ...  Vanakkam, Namaste and good day!. In this blog, I will share my real world experiencing both drought and drain as a farmer...This blog is about drought and drains that we experienced last year....  Global warming is alarming, and it is time to act on, rather than being reactive always... Background:  Last year we had severe drought in our area. It was really worst, i.e. around 4 to 6 months: i.e. from June till October, it was really worse. People had to search for drinking water and preserve for few days till they got again. In farm, we had very little water only. Existing 100+ feet well drained out completely, and all the bore-wells or boreholes ran out of water. Hence, it was very tough to maintain the farm. You could see a dying mango tree in below picture ...   During this drought period, we lost many big mango trees.  They were planted by my father. These trees were growing along with us. When we were kids, my dad planted those in

pazhamkanji or pazhayasoru or pazhayakanji - have you heard about this?

My dear social friends, brothers and sisters ...  Vanakkam, Namaste and good day!. Last month, I visited India and I will share some interesting experiences from that. This blog is about pazhamkanji or pazhayasoru or pazhayakanji.  Have you heard about this?. It is tough to pronounce for sure.  This is one of our traditional food, and I am very glad to see this back. What is Kanji? - Kanji is a popular dish in the state of Tamil Nadu. In old days, among the daily working classes, it is a staple nourishing breakfast dish, although consumed often for lunch.  Whoever coming to work in farm, always used to have this for both breakfast and lunch with few different side dishes.  Not only farm workers, I have seen this with daily construction workers too. Whenever we were kids, we used to have the same for breakfast at farm along with farm workers. For a surprise, I saw this in all big hotels this time and I could not believe the same. :) Pazhamkanji or pazhayasoru or pazhyakanji has made i

Palm Trees Progress - Two leaves in two years.... (Panai Maram and Karupatti Kaapi)

My dear social friends, brothers and sisters ...  Vanakkam, Namaste and good day!. Last month , I visited India and I will share the latest progress and latest experiences from farm. This blog is about palm trees. Two years back, I planted around 100 palm trees. Here is the old blog: https://blog.prabakarpaulsami.com/2021/11/planted-100-palm-trees-palmyra-palm.html I visited my farm, happy to see some progress and sharing the same here. The interesting fact is that, after two years of planting and waiting, I see now two leaves. :). Not all trees survived, but many survived our last year drought. It took two years, to see some visible progress as see you below. Many trees still have just one leave as you see below. Palm Trees take longer time to grow. An average growth rate is: 3 to 10 inches per year. What does it mean: This plantation is for next generation. I am sure that, I will not get any benefits from this plantation.  But, preserving/growing this tree for next generation. It is
