Have you seen Kodukkapuli? (Other names: Manila Tamarind, Jungle Jalebi, Madras Thorn, Monkey Pod etc)

Hi Everyone --

I trust you and family are doing well. Things are getting better and better with covid situations. Take care of yourself and family.

In this blog, I am going to share little about another summer surprise fruit called "Kodukkapuli / Manila Tamarind / Jungle Jalebi". etc.   Please see below image.

My neighbor is a doctor. Last week, I gave few cashew apples from my farm to him. He asked me to wait for a minute, reached below tree in his backyard, and picked few kodukkapulis (manila tamarinds) and gave to me. He gave a bunch. I was so happy to get these from him, because everyday I see this tree and fruits from my home.

The tree looks like below:

This is also another Summer Surprise..Try out this fruit whenever you see this....Nature gives us lot during summer.  Are we taking all summer fruits during this season?. Stay healthy and stay positive, during summer.

I also remembered "Barter". In old days, it was all about barter. Do we support this now?. :)

Here are some more pictures from the tree. Fruits look like snake initially, and then they turn pinkish.

The leaf is really thick and lushy green. This tree gives good shadow too for human and lots of birds.

In old days, we used to fight for this fruit in schools.  We used to throw stones targeting these fruits from ground, try to hit that fruit and get few pods. Wow.. Do you remember those days?. Do you remember those skills?

In summary:

  • In summer, nature gives us lot. Let us respect nature, consume those seasonal fruits and stay healthy.
  • Think about planting these trees. Did we ever try planting trees for next generations? :)

OK, everyone. Take care.
