pazhamkanji or pazhayasoru or pazhayakanji - have you heard about this?
My dear social friends, brothers and sisters ...
Vanakkam, Namaste and good day!.
Last month, I visited India and I will share some interesting experiences from that.
This blog is about pazhamkanji or pazhayasoru or pazhayakanji. Have you heard about this?. It is tough to pronounce for sure.
This is one of our traditional food, and I am very glad to see this back.
What is Kanji? - Kanji is a popular dish in the state of Tamil Nadu. In old days, among the daily working classes, it is a staple nourishing breakfast dish, although consumed often for lunch.
Whoever coming to work in farm, always used to have this for both breakfast and lunch with few different side dishes. Not only farm workers, I have seen this with daily construction workers too. Whenever we were kids, we used to have the same for breakfast at farm along with farm workers.
For a surprise, I saw this in all big hotels this time and I could not believe the same. :)
Pazhamkanji or pazhayasoru or pazhyakanji has made it to the menu at several hotels. Please see below description of the same.
OK, does it have any health benefits? - (for the tropical location)
In the above and below pictures, it is always taken with spicy pickles like mango pickle or lemon pickle. Some common side dish items are coconut chutney, thuvaiyal, butter milk, chillies and small onions. Yes, you see below.
When it is served via mud pots, it adds more flavor and chillness. I truly experienced the same. :). After my long 20+ hours of travel, a bowl of this made a big difference.
If you are a spice lover, I would encourage you to try out this as well. This food really jogged my old memories to the core.
But, why are we not having this at home these days?. My wife and I had a good conversation and debate on this topic after I shared all these. :) . Why are we not giving to our kids and why are we not having at home?
In summary, I am happy to see our old traditional food is back, and it has a spot in five star hotels. Very soon kids will realize this and get back to old healthy home. :)
OK, everyone. Hope you enjoy reading these and thinking about traditional food!.
We will catch up in the next blog and take care!
Bye, Nandri.
In our childhood we had it in your garden. Those memories are unforgettable
