Dhoni = Winning Team

Hope everyone is doing OK, during this extended locked down period.
Today is complete locked down in Tamil Nadu-India, i.e. everything is shut down except hospitals. I started writing this blog post lunch... :)
In this blog, I will share my thoughts and comments about "M.S.Dhoni's leadership", who was leading Indian Cricket Team close to a decade. Last week, he retired from international cricket, and all the cricket fans are talking about this.
Everyone talked about Dhoni's leadership qualities like below:
- Stay Calm
- Stay Grounded
- Lead From Front
- Encourage Team members to perform
- Share credits / failures with teammates
Also, every where I saw Dhoni's leadership lesson articles. I completely agree on the above.
Every manager and every executive will agree on the above too.
I will make one more comment: DHONI = WINNING TEAM
What is it all about?
Cricket is a team game. The game is completely AGILE. i.e. You start the game by tossing a coin and you cannot predict your batting order in the game. Everyone has to be HONEST here, with only one GOAL "WINNING". Team has to respond quickly for any conditions, come together with correct attitude, know their roles and responsibilities very clearly and DELIVER at any time. :)
This is Dhoni's secret sauce. He cracked the above very clearly. He coached the team very well; trained them very well and made them to perform at any AGILE conditions. He celebrated the micro-moments with team, and made them to be expressive. i.e. every run-out and catch during fielding.
He made the team to be comfortable, made their voices to be heard, gave them the space or ambience to perform, stood behind each and every individual. He respected the seniors, and at the same time he appreciated the juniors and gave them enough chance.
It is Dhoni's secret, it is the success he had, and it is an in-born or hidden management skill. He has the secret formula for making a winning team or tuning any team into a winning team. Of-course, it is all his hard-work.
Dhoni has multiple businesses now (.i.e. Chennaiyin FC, Ranchi Rays, Seven, Mahi Racing Team, Mahi hotel, SportsFit etc.. There are more for sure). It will be worth watching his businesses and winning formulas or success secrets there.
How do I relate this in our corporate IT world?
We also need a winning or performing team, at any conditions, any time etc. Everyone prefers to be in a winning team. Everyone looks for consistency.
How do we make this, in our scrum or agile process:
- Team has to be comfortable; make sure that their voices are heard, give them the freedom or ambience to perform, know each and every individual.
- Every team member has to be HONEST here, with only one GOAL as per their business directions.
- Team has to respond quickly for any conditions, come together with correct attitude, know their roles and responsibilities very clearly and DELIVER at any time.
- Respect seniors and appreciate juniors
- Celebrate or share the micro-moments (could be good or bad) with everyone

If every team member has winning attitude, positive energy, humanity, then it is a WINNING TEAM for sure, and of-course with their business or team leader with same characteristics, innovation, passion and energy.
